What is an ISBN ?
What is an ISBN ?
An ISBN (International Standard Book Number) is the 13 digit number that you will find on one of the front pages in most books and often on the outside of the back cover (next to the barcode).
This number is like a fingerprint for your book, it is a unique number that identifies your book internationally. No two books have the same number. Through this number not only can the book be identified but so can its author, publisher, publication date and so on, which is great for your promotion of the book. ISBN numbers can be attained for ebooks, printed books, audio books, educational videos, computer software and multimedia kits.
ISBNs are bought from registered agencies around the world, and are available to publishers, self-publishers and manufacturers alike.
The barcode is a black and white striped box often found on retail products and usually found on the back cover of a book. The lines on the barcode represent a specific number, which in the case of a book usually represents the ISBN number.
