When have you been hit hard with the diagnosis of an illness or disease?
Sadly, illness is something we all have to come to terms with, but the diagnosis of any disease can have a lasting effect regardless of whether it is ourselves or another who is ill.
Was there any warning of the illness? How did you find out? What was your reaction and that of you around you? What happened next?

Feb 4, 2010, Macquarie dictionary's new word of the year for 2009
And the winner is ... shovel-ready. In the people's choice the most popular new adjective for 2009 was 'tweet' (no surprise there, I think).
These, plus a variety of other new words, will soon appear in the online Macquarie Dictionary. For those that are interested some of the runners up were: head-nodder, cyberbully and roar factor.
Now that they are all official words in the Australian vocabulary, watch out for them in this site's Daily Writing Prompts

What rule, moral, affirmation, lyrics or quote do you try to live your life by?
It's possible that you have lived by different quotes at different times within your life -- perhaps one to get you through a tough time, another relating to young children, keeping focus, challenges, fun.
Think back through your life and see what comes to mind. It's possible you may not even realise the moral was there until you start reflecting on it.

JD Salinger, the US author of The Catcher in the Rye has died at the age of 91, and so another great 20th century writer passes on.
